Vertical AI Leads at Bank of America Trailblazers Event

General-purpose models are starting to look alike. The companies that pitched at Bank of America's Private Tech Trailblazers Conference 2026 in Palo Alto, California, are betting on what sits around those models: their own data, industry workflows and, more and more often, their own hardware.

The lineup covered restaurants, construction, hospitals, payments and defense. Each company was going after a narrow problem where results can be measured. John Furrier, executive analyst at theCUBE Research, conducted the interviews. He said specialized intelligence went from a quiet topic to a central one in about a year, because "the intelligence comes out of the data."

AI Agents by Text: The Assistants Living in Your Messages

A new kind of AI assistant does not ask you to install anything. You add it to your contacts and text it like a friend. A recent TechCrunch roundup lists close to twenty of these services, from general helpers to tools built for families, travelers, creators and office workers.

The basic pitch is similar across most of them. You send a message describing what you need. The agent keeps track of context, connects to apps you already use, and carries out the task. Typical jobs include booking appointments, sorting a calendar, planning a trip, sending email, reserving a table, shopping online, or reminding you of something several days later.

Circuit Breaker Labs Stress-Tests Chatbots for Mental Harm

Most debate about AI risk focuses on large, distant scenarios such as bioweapons or runaway systems. The harm already on record is quieter and more personal. Chatbots have been linked to the deaths of real users, and the companies behind them are now dealing with the legal consequences.

Earlier this year, Character.AI settled several wrongful death lawsuits. They were filed by families of underage users who died by suicide after talking with its bots. OpenAI also faces suits from multiple families who allege that ChatGPT contributed to the suicides and delusions of people close to them.

San Francisco startup Circuit Breaker Labs wants to find these failures before users do. It is one of TechCrunch's 2026 Startup Battlefield 200 finalists and will pitch at TechCrunch Disrupt, which runs October 13-15 at Moscone West in San Francisco.

Suno Speech: AI Music Generator Adds Spoken-Word Audio

Suno built its name on AI-generated songs. Its latest feature moves the company into a neighboring format: spoken audio that comes with its own soundtrack.

The new tool is called Speech. It creates a narrated voice and fitting background music at the same time and delivers both as a single audio track. Users do not have to record a voiceover, find a music bed, and mix the two. The model handles all of it in one pass.

How Speech works

The workflow follows the prompt-driven pattern Suno users already know:

  1. Start with text or an idea. Users can paste in a finished script or type a rough concept.
  2. Describe the voice. The prompt sets how the narrator should sound.
  3. Describe the music. A second description sets the style of the accompanying sound.

FieldAI Reportedly Raising $700M at a $10B Valuation

FieldAI Inc., a startup that builds AI models to control robots, is reportedly in the middle of a large fundraise. According to a source cited by Business Insider, the company is looking to raise $700 million in a round that could value it at $10 billion.

That figure would be five times FieldAI's valuation from last August. The report says the company has already signed a term sheet. A term sheet is a preliminary, nonbinding document that sets out the main conditions of an investment before the final agreement is signed.

Who might be writing the checks

The report did not name the investors expected to join the round. Large growth-stage rounds often include money from a startup's existing backers. FieldAI's current investors include Bezos Expeditions, Intel Capital and NVentures, the venture fund of Nvidia Corp.
